Mosaique was commissioned to develop an eye-catching and unique style for Tewkesbury Then & Now, a major photographic exhibition showcasing Tewkesbury’s heritage buildings. Its aim is to transport visitors back in time. By providing an opportunity to reflect on how the town has changed over the years and promoting traditional building techniques.
The outcome needed to have a clean and contemporary approach while still showcasing the town’s rich heritage. We delivered this using a colour palette inspired by Tewkesbury’s buildings. Such as warm tones taken from the wooden textures and a splash of bright colour inspired by the modern brickwork.
Tewkesbury is unique in its concentration and array of historic buildings. To help bring this to life through the design, we immersed ourselves in Tewkesbury’s history. For example walking the town and taking inspiration from the buildings. We made sure to pay close attention to shapes and decorative detail.
From these observations, we created a unique set of line-drawn patterns designed specifically to portray the story of Tewkesbury. If you look closely, you can see timber patterns, decorative shapes, glass patterns and tools used for traditional maintenance techniques on historic buildings.
The colour and patterns were used alongside a combination of serif and sans serif fonts to bring the modern and heritage aspects to life. The finished result created a coherent suite of designs that complimented Tewkesbury, both then and now.
We worked closely with HSHAZ at Tewkesbury Borough Council to deliver a creative suite of design literature. Used to both to promote the event and bring it to life during the weekend. We managed the whole process from concept right through to print, which meant we had full overview of the project and were able to ensure a high quality outcome. This took any stress out of the process for the client.
