  • Breaking the ice on AppSpace’s acquisition of Igloo – Part 3

In this short series of articles, Paul Carter – Chairman at Mosaique – discusses the recent acquisition of Igloo by AppSpace and what this could mean for Igloo customers in the next 12 months. This is part 3, delving into Igloo’s platform, from pros and cons, to drawbacks and potential turning points for current customers. What is important to consider when choosing an intranet?

If you missed part 1 and 2, you can read them here first.

Moving away from Igloo

The move away from Igloo was two-pronged for Mosaique, initially due to Igloo’s move away from the European market, but also Mosaique’s desire to find an intranet partner that focuses on innovation and future growth, allowing us to better support with customisation, unique development requirements and provide in-depth technical support to customers, supporting them from the first enquiry to their ongoing growth as a business.

As mentioned in the previous article, Mosaique’s key responsibilities as implementation partners for Igloo were development of new SDK widgets and platform customisation for Igloo customers. Mosaique supported the Igloo teams from development to consultancy, moving the needle on the art of the possible across technical and customer-centric services.

What were the pros and cons we found using Igloo Software?

Pros:
  • Employee Engagement: Strong social tools for generating employee content, fostering communication and collaboration.
  • Customer Support: Responsive and helpful customer support.
  • Ease of Setup: Relatively straightforward to set up.
CONS:
  • Integrations: Poor integration with third-party applications, including Microsoft and Google services.
  • Design & Interface: Limited flexibility in design and an uninspired interface.
  • Customisation: Difficult to customise without extensive development.
Major Drawbacks:
  • Hosting: Subpar hosting performance.
  • Mobile Experience: Mobile functionality is virtually non-existent.
  • Cost: High cost of ownership.
  • Future-proofing: Limited product roadmap

Choosing the right intranet

At the core of this, I want to emphasise the importance of finding an intranet solution that not only meets your organisation’s core business needs, but is robust for longevity, and has a clear roadmap for future development, such as integration of AI, introduction of key services and platforms, ultimately giving you the confidence that your solution is not the end of the road – but just the start of where you can go.

A trusted partner use case

A good use case of our custom-centric approach to our intranet projects, is our successful migration use case with Amrop Global. Head of Global Programs, Costa Tzavaras has provided valuable insights and kind feedback around his migration experience from Igloo to LumApps, sharing a wonderful case study for Mosaique. Earlier this year Costa spoke on a webinar with us to discuss their new employee engagement platform and answer questions about his migration, a true testimony to the valued relationship we have built.

You can watch the full replay of the webinar here, a great example of a customer who trusts us to do the right thing for their business.

Next time:

In my next instalment I discuss what to consider when migrating to a new intranet, the importance of a robust future roadmap and why this announcement might be a turning point for many Igloo customers.

This is part 3 of 5 blogs delving into my thoughts on the Igloo acquisition by AppSpace. Keep an eye out for the next instalment of this series.
