A modern solution for a future facing brand

Severn wye

Mosaique were briefed by Severn Wye Energy to design and develop a new website solution that not only refreshed the look and feel of the brand, but offered a clear and intuitive user experience to meet the needs of their different audiences. Offering clean energy services for domestic, business and community needs across England and Wales, Severn Wye wanted a solution that gave users clear paths to the services that are most important to them, using engaging design and considered UX to display relevant information clearly and concisely.

Understanding the energy behind Severn Wye

To kick start this project, we wanted to understand the core workings behind Severn Wye as an agency. To do this we had an initial call with the client to introduce us to the brand and get an idea of the existing CMS solution and the ways it could serve the brand better. The existing solution was part of a Wordpress multi-site, locked into DIVI editor, that was difficult for the marketing team to edit or change. This made new design and content a constraint, and pushed for the need for change. Referencing the existing site, marketing and brand documents, we developed a refreshed style that brought the multi-faceted brand pillars together in a modern and future-looking website.

Designing a clean UI and UX experience

Our Head of Digital got stuck in designing out the new site structure, as led by the client’s suggestions. This stage involved the development of an overall look and feel using the existing branding, we wanted to create a bespoke set of components which better suit the needs of the site, displaying the most important content in an attractive and intuitive way.

This included an array of designed components, including hero banners, content carousels, accordions, CTA banners and more. These components allow the client to dynamically populate the site in a way that keeps a consistent look and feel, a previous constraint for Severn Wye with a number of partner brands influencing page content.

Developing the perfect solution

Our Digital team got to work building out the updated site structure and design, using the existing site as a base to transfer any key pages and allow the client to create and repopulate the rest of the page structure. The new Wordpress site was built using Gutenberg editor, allowing the client to build pages from bespoke designed and developed patterns. Part of the solution was to find a way to allow Severn Wye to provide both an English and Welsh translation of the site, without the existing issue of having two separate pages for each. To combat this, we used a plugin which allowed the client to translate side by side and update any content that has been changed in different revisions.
